Outdoor seating comes in
It’s uncanny how a chair designed in 1958 as outdoor seating still manages to look both classic and contemporary in twenty-first century interiors. The chairs’ clean, trim lines make them appropriate for all kinds of places, from classic and contemporary homes to elegant offices to hip start-ups.
Expansive options
Give this timeless design a high degree of personalisation through expansive material choices. Start with the luxurious feel of leather, in contract-grade or premium MCL—a semi-aniline dyed leather with 100 percent natural full grain. You can also opt for a pairing of MCL Leather cushions with a sling seat/back suspension in a coordinating colorway of Hallingdal, a rich blend of wool and rayon. This subtle contrast in textures gives the design an added dimension of sophistication. Colour variations and surface marks are an inherent characteristic of leather, which will acquire wrinkles and creases, and develop a rich patina over time.
To complement lighter materials, we offer powder coat finishes on the base and frame, along with traditional polished aluminum. Chairs with the 4-star base come with glides that are easy on any floorcovering, while chairs with a 5-star base have a choice of casters for bare floors or carpeting.
Innovative comfort
Never being ones to favour style over substance, Charles and Ray Eames gave their designs an innovative suspension that creates a firm, flexible “sitting pocket” that conforms subtly to the body’s shape. They created that suspension by stretching a continuous piece of seat-back upholstery tautly between lightweight aluminium side ribs. The foam cushions on Soft Pad chairs will not flatten or clump over time.
Pneumatic lift and tilt lock are available as options on the management and executive models.
Durability
With one-piece, curved aluminium side ribs and a die-cast aluminium base, the chair is strong yet lightweight, and easy to move.
