From Across the Pond, A Ripple Effect in Product Awards for Herman Miller, Inc.

January 02, 2007

Herman Miller's new designs are collecting honors internationally, in addition to North America. Last month in London's Grosvernor Hotel, FX Magazine's International Interior Design Awards 2006 ceremony paid tribute to Herman Miller's My Studio Environments, the Celle task chair and the Leaf personal light.

My Studio, designed by Douglas Ball, was chosen the winner in the Workplace Systems category. Judges praised the system as "innovative in the way that it moves workplace theory (forward)."

Jerome Caruso's Celle work chair won the Workplace Seating category, with the jury hailing the chair as a "worthy successor to the Aeron and Mirra." Earlier in the year, Celle was chosen as the "Best Ergonomic Solution" at Mixology '06, the annual design competition sponsored by another UK-based magazine, Mix Interiors.

Finally, in the FX magazine's Lighting Product category, Yves Behar's Leaf personal light earned a "Highly Commended" award, with judges choosing it for "unique aesthetics, industry-leading technology and unmatched user control."

According to Luke Dawson, Herman Miller's marketing executive in the UK, no other company received as many awards as did Herman Miller in this year's FX competition, thus "highlighting Herman Miller's leadership position in terms of product innovation and the effectiveness of the marketing communications programs."
