Does my company have to be an 8(a) or similarly classified company to work with Herman Miller?
No. Herman Miller works with all types of suppliers. However, it is our policy, through our Supplier Diversity Program to maximize participation with minority- and women-owned businesses by developing mutually beneficial business relationships with them. We also support doing business with small, small disadvantaged, veteran, service-disabled veteran, HUBZone, and LGBT-owned businesses.

Each commodity team is expected to:
  • Establish and meet an annual supplier diversity goal as a part of their performance measurements.

  • Annually attend at least one national and/or regional supplier diversity training event or conference.

  • Include small, small disadvantaged, veteran-owned, service disabled veteran-owned, HUBZone, and women-owned businesses in the bid inclusion process.
New Product Development is expected to:
  • Achieve 12 percent MBE and 6 percent WBE average material content on new product introductions.
Tier 2 Program:
  • Annually Herman Miller requests prime suppliers, whose sales to Herman Miller are $550,000 or more, to report their activities around supplier diversity. The reports indicate what minority- and women-owned businesses they've done business with, over the previous fiscal year, and the associated dollars spent with those suppliers.
